I have one pig, but she shares the same area (Not the same pen) as my 5 chickens and soon to be 2 turkeys/ducks. Is this okay? will she have enogh daily interaction to be kept alone till we butcher her?

I have a pig- a pet pig, and she's with my goats and sometimes my ducks and chickens go into their area and hang out. She does fine with them :) and enjoys there company I think. I would be cautious though- one of my chickens ended up with a broken leg last fall, and all I can really come up with is that she might've gotten under Jemimah's (pigs) feet. It was an easy fix with a wrap and a popsicle stick for a few weeks, but certainly could've been worse.

For mental stimulation if we're not going to be around a lot, I give her treats and food in a treat dispensing horse ball toy (amazon), keeps her busy!

Pigs prefer company and birds aren't company for them. Since you're raising for the butcher, her long term happiness doesn't matter as much. So just provide her with stimulation. I'm sure you can look up homemade pig toys. Pigs are very intelligent and very social. A bored pig is a destructive pig. I'd suggest raising two at a time in the future. You can always get someone to buy some meat or the other pig if you don't need that much.

We did get another pig- Charlotte (the original) is still very tame and sociable. The other one ( I don't have a picture of her ) is aptly named Charlie:love IMG_0577.jpg
