Keeping one single chicken? Good idea or bad?

My beloved Buff Orpington died today which takes our flock number to one. One single hen. My question is do I keep her and get new chicks next spring or do I find her a new home with more friends? Does anyone have only one chicken? I live in Nebraska and can't imagine a cold winter by yourself is good for anyone, yet alone a chicken. Thoughts?

I vote get her a friend - I would not want to be the lone person in a group of chickens and I guess vice versa

Sorry about your loss. I agree with the others, she needs some friends. I had two, worried about one dying and isolating the one left, so now I have five chickens.

Get 'er a friend. Check Craigslist, there is usually a hen for sale.

You have a worry with the winter too, more chickens mean more body heat, and unless you heat your coop, she really does need more chickens.
