We sadly lost one bird to a raccoon so we "upgraded" our chicken cage. Well for one our cage is actually a bunny rabbit cage. It is elevated since there are rattlesnakes where we live. We zip-tied metal 1/4 inch wire onto the front of the cage to help protect our little babies. We also screwed in eye hooks and fasted it with a caribbiner (SP) to hold the lid shut. then we "raccoon proofed" the swing down ramp with a simple door lock. And then we cover the chickens up with a towel that we place over the cage. It takes a while but it is worth is because the chickens are safe and sound for the night.
