We keep our chinese painted and japanese quails outside together in a large cage. Here in Britain the weather could get quite wet and windy. Unfortunatly, the rain and wind sometimes goes through the side of the cage on to their straw bedding and possibly on to them. We would like to know if this is ok for them.
Thank you

Does anyone have any ideas?

Chinese blue breasted, button, quail are tropical birds and would do best at 70-85 F 21-26C. They must have a dry warm place or they will die from wet and cold rather quickly.

I don't know on the others but I know wet is not good for them and wind isn't either.

Im in Britain too, havent got to moving my quails out yet as the chicks are still growing up but my solution was a quail tracter with plastic sheeting over it to keep rain out. Its only 9 inches high so they cant flush and break necks, also top is a small mesh wire so it has give. The plastic sheeting will also barrier off any cats (including my two who have low prey drives but would love sitting and watching them) and as the wire is underneath as well its raised a couple of cm so grass comes through but they cant get wet feet as that can cause problems too. I have raised my quail chicks in kitchen so they are used to the noises of dog and cats and can see eachother through plastic brooder. So far no problems apart from dog licking the brooder occaisonally ( she is a bit maternal so she trys to mother new animals!). Picture is showing without sheeting so you can see clearly, sheeting I secure with a few bricks although may end up stapling it down. One side the wire unhooks so I can get in if necessary although feed and water attach externally so hoping that wont need too!
