Keeping the water clean

How do you guys keep the waterer clean? It seems my chickens like to scratch all of the dirt form their run in there. I am constantly cleaning it. I have it raised off the ground about 6 inches.

Raise it higher. I keep the water founts up to where they are higher than the chicken's back. They have to reach, and crane their necks a bit to get a drink. But I have clean water founts. (except for one that is low for a one week old chick)

How do I train my chickens to drink from an upside down bucket with those metal tips

I'm wondering how to train them too. I just put one in the coop and showed them several times . I have not seen them use it - not sure how to tell if they are.
