keeping water from freezing

Any advice on how to keep my chickens water from freezing?
I have silkies and a rhode island red. Will they be okay in the winter? Is there anything special I need to do for them? Their run has a roof on it so they won't be covered in snow.

If you can run a dropcord for electric you can build you a water warmer. Look up the metal cookie box warmmers. They are great. You use a lamp socket inside with a tiny watt bulb and it will keep the water warm enough to prevent freezing when a small bucket is placed on it. Remember a tiny bulb is better. You do not want really warm water. Bacteria can grow in it to easy. Always use the vinegar in the water too. Gloria Jean

they sell water heaters for the winter, you can also put hot water (but not to hot!) in the waterer. check on the water every so often too
