OK, so it's not that the BMD (used to prevent quail enteritis) is bad for them, just that amprolium is recommended to prevent cocci.

Yea, I heard the same thing. A lot of BYC turkey owners say the same thing about not being able to get the same brands of feed. There is only 1 store in my area that carries the Purina Game Bird Startena 30% protein. If it weren't for them carrying this brand, I wouldn't be able to purchase it either.

Being as though Purina is a very popular brand, I wonder why the 30% protein isn't in every feed store.

Along about August Game Bird is not available. Its like they don't believe any one is still hatching birds that have a high protein need.

There are several reasons why, in my area its because people won't pay the price for it. Or I should say can't.

Some don't carry it because its not in high demand in some areas. Any purina dealer will get it on their next truck if you just request it and maybe pay in advance. They will do that for any line they carry. Also, the startena in my area is not medicated.

Ok. Well that explains why it's only stocked at 1 feed store within a 45 mile radius from me. I think this store only orders 15 bags per week but all 15 bags always sell.

Pretty much any Turkey, Game Bird and Pheasant starter feed crumbles between 25% and 30% protein content will work for raising Guinea keets. You don't have to buy a specific brand of starter feed, just know what you are asking for as far as the protein content goes and the medication that's in the feed, be sure to read the labels before you buy.

My name is Kris, this is my first post, i did post an intro in the intro forum.

I am learning so much about this, and running into a brick wall. I asked my purina dealer to order me a bag of the gamebird starter medicated. They called me this week to say they cant get the medicated starter. So I have been calling all the farm stores here and asking for the right feed. I did find a purina dealer 100 miles away that said they have the food. It happend to be close to a friend of mine, that was coming this way. So I asked her to pick it up.

LOng story, she did bring the bag to me, and I was shocked that it is another brand, not what I asked the feed store for, which I dont care that it is a different brand, but the medication is Lasalocid ???

This is a Southern States feed. I called the feed store and he said all his farmers that have guineas use this food and never had a problem.

Well I contacted Southern states, and they say keets and young guineas dont do well with Losalocid.

So here the keets are due to arrive tomorrow and I dont have the right feed.

No one locally here has medicated Turkey/gamebird feed.

Help!! I can get medicated chicken feed but the protein is to low. Whats the best plan for my keets which will be here in a day or 2.

I am so frustrated.
