keet with attached yoke sac? with picture. What to do?

I have a guinea hen keet that was born yesterday..

I think with a the yoke sac still attached.

I'm not sure. It is my best guess from reading posts here.

Wondering what I should do?

I have it separated from others, still in the bator. Do I leave him there to keep him moist? Will it absorb? or do you think this is something else? Is it worth a try for a few days? thoughts? Thanks

I've had chicks hatch in bator still having partail egg sac attached quite a few times. I found if I removed chick from bator that the sac would dry and cause problems for the chick. The other chicks in brooder would peck at and the sac would scab. On the occasions when this happens, I tend to leave the chick in batoruntil it absorbs. Most of the time it will go ahead and absorb iwithout any problems unless it is still a large sac upon hatching. From memory, the longest I've kept on in bator for this reason was 24 hours. After which the chick was fine, sac was abosorbed, and chick if stable enough was placed in brooder with others. (By stable, I mean walking, eating, and drinking.)

I've been quite distraught over this.. I just removed her from the bator.. and put her in the container that the others were in ( I had moved the others to a larger cage outside.. They are already almost twice the size of the sick one.. )

the area has dried up a bit.. looks now more like a reddish/purple tumor type growth. she is fluffy up on half of her body, but from the "waist" down, she is moist and pasty like. She can walk ( sometimes hobble) around ok.. and the toes on the affected side have nearly returned to normal ( toes on that side have only a minor curl to them)

I have food and water in there.. and she just crawls over them.. I havn't noticed her eating anything..


Not sure if there is anything more I can do.. other then wait and see.. for now she is alert and active

I forgot to add in earlier post. You may try some neosporin or generic antibotioc cream on affected area to help keep moist. Just a dab will do. If they are like chicks, (as I don't gave any keets), they don't need food or water for the first roughly 24 hours, as the egg yolk feeds them until then. I would try to dip beak in water for drink, then dip in feed. Do this off and on during the day until baby starts on own.
