My neighbor called me this morning for help with one of his keets that had caught its leg between the lid and top perimeter of his brooder box and was hanging upside down. He asked if I could nurse it back to health since I have had some luck with fixing up splayed leg chicks before. I stopped by a few minutes ago and brought it home. My neighbor had thought it sprained its ankle but it looks to me like it is broken. When I moved the foot I heard a tiny crunch sound. It is swollen at the ankle and is starting to bruise on the foot. I am trying now to find a local vet that will help but past experience tells me that none of the local vets deal with birds. Has anyone had any luck in setting a broken leg on a bird? If so, how did you do it? If I can't get it set, is there something else I can do to help it heal the best way possible so the bird will be able to walk again?

How is this keet?
I had a neighbor come by to take a look at his leg. She had some experience in treating bird leg injuries but she said it was best to leave it be and just let him get by the best he can. That is what we did. We named him Chester. And he did very well for a long time around here. He could fly is good as any of the others. He was our special needs Guinea. But we had predator problems and something took him out along with several of my chickens. I thought it was a fox but now we think it is a bobcat. My daughter was out at the hen house the other day and saw the bobcat trying to get into the pen. Our dogs chased it away. Just so many predators here in North Florida. We miss sweet Chester. Sigh. My chickens and peacocks used to free range for years. Now they are all pinned up. Not too happy with me. I have game cameras and traps and dogs And will keep trying to get whatever it is… Till the end of time!
