In the Borough of Kennett Square, in Chester County, PA, we have very little regulations in our small town when it comes to domestic fowl. Right now, this is all that the borough code states:

3-2 Prohibiting livestock to run at large in the borough or to be present at special events in the borough
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to permit livestock belonging to that person to run at large in the borough.

The meeting tonight is being held to "address ordinances", and many people want to do away with backyard chickens because of irresponsible owners causing nuisances. Apparently chickens are wandering into peoples' yards and into streets. I'm not opposed to clear regulations, but I don't support a ban.

I am not a chicken owner, but I hope to be in the future. Since I don't know much about the topic, I need a crash course in talking points. Can someone provide me with a few valid (local) arguments against any ban? Links to any pages with good strategies?

I'm starting this thread in case anyone else is local and wants to discuss.

Bruce,
I also live in Kennett Square and am interested in owning back yard chickens. Can you please share what happened at the meeting and if any resolution was reached.
Thanks!
