Kentucky people

I am confident the scenario you describe is folks rearing fighting cocks. No other reason to raise a yard of roosters in that fashion. No one is going to under feed their prized fighters! Sorry to be a bummer. While shopping for real estate in EKY, we immediately wrote off a property because the neighbor was raising an “orchard” of fighting birds right by the driveway / entry in the exact fashion you describe.
I see this in several places where I live in NE Kentucky. It seems that Kentucky dont enforce any laws against it. I work in animal rescue and believe me, Kentucky doesnt enforce laws concerning dogs and here, cats are just a nuisance in their eyes. Its a shit show. I think the breeders are hiding behind the guise of English Game breeders

I'm sorry I didn't see the reply to my question ealier. That is what my husband said he thought as well. 🙁 The guy down the road that was doing that all his roosters were just gone one day so I can't say what happened. It makes me so sad and sick to think about it. I just lost my two roosters yesterday to a probable mink attack..and I really cared about those birds and to think someone does it just for sport makes me want to cry more

I hear ya @WhatsUpDuck There can be enough suffering, death and heartache on the homestead without making a homestead into a purposeful source of these things. I’m a softy - just yesterday, I had to mercifully dispatch a mouse where the trap didn’t fully do the job. I don’t care that I still get upset at these moments - in fact, I pray to never be desensitized to taking a life, regardless of the purpose.

I have been told there’s big money to be made in cockfighting tournaments. With that incentive in place, and enforcement lax, I don’t see the issue going away soon. On the bright side, at least we don’t have cockfights on prime time television like they do in the Philippines. 🫣
