khaki cambell info

ksmith - Yes, it does have an effect on their life span as there is a lot of strain on their bodies. Khaki Campbells live for about 6-8 years whereas other breeds can live to 10+ years!

Here is a picture of my little beauty KC, my 3 week old Khaki Campbell. She is starting to get feathers now.

Thanks! I'm getting excited now, hearing all the great things you all have to say about them...though I'm not fond of the loudness. Oh, well, they can't be worse than my Cayuga girl right?

I have 4 KC. They are about 5 months old and I want to know if I have males and females. They do not have curls on the tails yet but 3 of them have a dark bill and 1 have a olive green bill. Could that mean I have 1 boy and 3 girls?

I would say yes based on bill color. There is also a very slight shape difference in the bill, males have a very straight bill, duck bills are ever so slightly curved. Not a great indicator of gender, but worth noting. I learned that by typing something along the lines of "khaki Campbell male vs. female"-- and then clicking on images, I found this black and white pencil line drawing comparison of the two). A better indicator I feel would be voice. Ducks quack and drakes sort-of beep. Beep really is not the right word, but its def not a quack.

Just to add to what I read above, sorry but I disagree wholeheartedly about KCs not being good brooders. My KC is a terrific mother, a great brooder, a great brooder and a friendly gal. The drake isn't really all that obnoxious as far as drakes go.
