Khaki Campbell mothering ability???

Want to get ducks for the homestead and thinking of the Khaki Campbell. I have heard widely varying stories about their mothering ability. My goal is to be able to breed my own replacements. The wife loves duck eggs so I am looking for egg production with good mothering ability. I also am looking for meat.

Any other breed that would fit the bill?

Musovies, I've heard, are the best mother's out there. However they lay about 100 eggs less then Campbell's. They are fat too.

Blue swedish are also good mother's and lay up to 180 eggs a year, which is about 120 eggs less then a campbell. They are small though so not the best for meat.

I have heard that Khaki Campbells are great mothers from some people, and I've also heard that they don't go broody at all from other people. I think it all depends on which Khaki Campbells you get.

Muscovies are great mothers. Absolutely spectacular mothers! I think they are better mothers then any other duck breed out there.
However they are not nearly as great of egg layers as Khaki Campbells.
Muscovies also make wonderful meat birds. Muscovies are considered some of the healthiest meat on the market, and their meat is also much leaner than other duck meat.

My dark Campbell hen went broody. Hatched 2/3 and was an AWESOME momma! All ducks will/can go broody... they'll set up their clutch when ready. Good luck!

Nah. Can’t compete with a Campbell. Great egg layers, and wonderful mothers..
