I have got 2 three week old Campbells and have read that they will possibly be able to fly.

have any of you experienced this? i was under the impression that they were totally flightless

Mine are about 3-1/2 months old, and they get about 2 feet off the ground, but do not go very far. It's usually when I first let them out of their pen in the morning - lots of wing flapping and running!

These are my first ducks, but I have read that once they start laying, they don't fly at all any more.

Anyone else?

You don't need to worry about them flying. Unless you have a really, really low fence. In a panic or something they might very rarely jump up on a three foot tall fence and then drop off on the other side. They could get a little airborn, especially when they are young, but not more than a about three feet, and they won't travel more than a few yards like that.

Well I have a drake and he flys about 6-12 feet high and goes for about 100 yards. He is with a Mallard female and they fly all the time. I bought him from Metzer farms and he is really small.

My two old drakes never showed any interest in flying but have been able to go a couple feet up and a few feet away. They mostly fly to get up and down the ramp from the waterfowl pen into their barn.

Of my three females, there are two smaller ones who can fly better than the drakes but like them they don't seem interested in leaving the pen where all the yummies and the pool are.

I have 3 khaki campbells, and they will FLY! They don't get much height, maybe 6-8feet off the ground but they can go quite a distance!! They only fly that like when something has scared them or they get separated from the group and want to get there real fast!

I was horrified this evening when all of a sudden the Khaki Campbells took flight. One hen didn't come down. She just kept going, like she was flying south for the winter. She was as high, if not higher, than a telephone pole and gaining height! She, thankfully, realized she was all alone and flew back. She flew a long way. Does this mean she is not pure Khaki or to breed standard? I got her from Ideal on May 27.
