I have a khaki cambell duck that has been sitting on eggs for about 32 days. However since she has been sitting, my one chicken and my other two ducks have been adding to her collection for about the first 2 weeks I think. This morning their is a baby chick hatched and no other sign of pipping. Will she look after the chick that has hatched or will she neglect as she is still sitting. Also she is in a shed where my other 3 ducks (including a male) and my chicken and cockeral all sleep. How do I go about making sure the chick has feed and water and will the other animals want to kill it. Should I seperate them? PLEASE HELP I AM DESPERATE

I'd somehow separate her from the others, you can do something as simple a chicken wire make sure to put feed and water close by so mama and chick can get to it. Chick will eat in about 2-3 days after hatch. I'd try to candle the remaining eggs, that way you can get an idea as to how far along the remaining eggs are to hatch. If they are staggerd to far apart she will 1. she'll keep sitting 2. she'll eventually get up and leave to take care of chick another thing you have to think about is water[swimming] she will take the chick to water and the chick could drown. might be better to remove chick to brooder for it's safety if no other chicks or ducklings hatch in the next couple days. Drakes and other ducks and chickens including roos can pose a threat to newly hatched chicks best to err or the side of caution. if you were so lucky to have even a broody hen available to could put the eggs that are fartherest from hatching under her. just a thought.

thanks for your reply I have seperated the duck and chick and the remaining eggs. Nothing has hatched and its starting to get smelly. So I will candle the remaining and see what is happening.
