Khaki with broken femur

6 weeks ago I got a phone call from home, we have a duck who is dragging her leg behind her. OH MY! I told my boss I had a poultry emergency, and left. One of my Khaki hens had broken her femur. Just simple fracture. As you may know Khakis are pretty stand offish. Harder to catch. Anyway. Set her leg, with a popsicle stick and hot pink wrap. Got bit about 3 times (yes they actually will pinch like a chicken, but harder!) Kept her in my office in a metal trough. Last week I moved her outside to a dogloo, where she could socialize. I removed that splint at that point. Still wouldn't stand on the leg. Thing morning I opened the cage let her out. The other 6 are in another area. She eventually came out WALKING with a bad limp. She spied the pool, made her way to it to bathe. After she figured out the step she was happy. Now she is sleeping, with a few of my chickens that think they are ducks. I think she will be fine! I am glad I got to her within a couple hours of the accident. Still don't know how it happened, probably my Rouen drake.

Gonna keep her isolated another week or two. For safety issues.

That's a great success story....The swimming will be good to get her strength back in her leg....Best wishes...
