Its pretty hot today here in eastern NC and is only supposed to get hotter this weekend.I was wondering if I got one of those plastic kiddie pools do you think they would get in it or would they be to scared of it and just drink out of it

I have one for my ducks (for some reason they refuse to swim in my pond!) and the chickens just drink out of it. Even today with us hitting 100 they haven't jumped in.

Others might say different?

ETA: my "chicks" are 12 weeks old.

I don't think chickens can swim, so they wouldn't trust a deep pool of water (deep to them anyway). I know they can get used to baths, but I don't know if they actually want to, as left to themselves, they dust-bathe.

I'm a liar! Just read a thread about the Colorado wild fires, and two people on there already have kiddie pools or kitty-litter boxes out for their chickens to wade in, and they do! Learn something new every day!

Grandmachickie using a kitty litter box is a great idea, just enough so if they wanna dip there feet would be perfect. Now that I think about it a kiddie pool might take up too much room. Thanks a bunch off to the Dollar General to buy one

I have a baby pool in my run and my chickens won't go in it. They will perch on the edge and drink the water, but that is it. When they see me with the hose they run. I am in SC and it's getting really hot this week, 100-104 degrees. I bought a "Misty Mate" today and installed it in my run that gets the most sun. It's pretty neat. The mist is fine enough that my chickens hardly notice it. I sat in there with them today while it was on and it really felt nice. It cost $29 for a 30 ft line. They sell them in 10 ft, 20 ft and 30 ft lengths.

Unfortunately, last week, I Horribly and accidently, lost one of my girls, a 1 yr old Barred Rock, when, to the best of our knowledge, slipped into the duck's kiddie pool, that she has been raised around since she was a chick..

My son found her when he went to let them out of their coop in the morning.

We are just now really able to talk about it, and I just hope that my chicken friends are very careful of having kiddie pools around chickens...its a horrible feeling..

Thank you for sharing--so sorry for your loss, but if it helps save someone else the heartache.... I'm really liking the Misty Mate. Having it up over the coop keeps it from getting gross and pooped on/in, too!
