Vindi's assault force now reached the outer edge of the research facility, and began to organize itself into attack formation. Several pickups carrying men with rocket launchers in the beds would lead the charge, blasting open the perimeter fences and breaching the walls of the compound itself. The Technicals would come just behind the rocket trucks, and bringing up the rear would be the transports loaded with troops. The Technicals and other attack vehicles would clear the way for the transports to drive up to the building and drop-off their men. The trucks with the cages would hang back outside the fences until they were given orders to move. At that point they would tear up to the building, load up the cages with stolen subjects, and leave immediately. The rest of the assault force would leave soon after that. Now, everyone got into position around the eastern edge of the perimeter. The sentries in the watch towers and the security personnel inside the compound had no idea about what was going to happen. The leader of Vindi's force put his mouth up to his walky-talky and uttered a single word; "Torpedo." This was the chosen code word for "Go. Start the attack." Less than a half second later, the sentries in the four closest watch towers soundlessly fell to the floor dead, the first victims of the sharpshooters and their .50-caliber sniper rifles. The sentry in one of the slightly more distant towers turned towards the gunshots and saw a barrage of rockets streak out of the forest, blowing open a 50-foot-wide hole in the perimeter fence. A huge stream of off-road vehicles quickly followed a few pickup trucks through the hole, and headed straight towards the main compound. He reached for his radio to report the attack and brought it up to his face. He opened his mouth to speak when he felt a hard thump in his chest, and suddenly, he couldn't breath. He looked down and saw a huge hole in his chest that went all the way through and out the back of his body. The reason he couldn't breath was because half of each of his lungs was gone. He slumped down to the floor, knowing he was dying, and knowing there was nothing anyone but God could do about it. His last thoughts before his mind slipped into oblivion were "Well, I guess it doesn't matter that I didn't get the radio call out now. You'd have to be legally deaf and stupid to not hear something like th..."
