Now that I am officially an empty nester I decided to get some chicks and "wa la" nest is empty no more. Interesting enough I am finding it very similar to when I had my first child. They are cute and cuddly, I watch them play, feed them by hand, give them toys and treats and of course check in on them in the middle of the night to make sure they are still breathing. Looking forward to this new adventure in raising my brood.

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

I also don't have an empty nest as my kids have grown up.

Hey, I've been to Taft (have family there).. I'm sorry! Just kidding. :hugs

I used to love seeing the Zebras and other animals painted on the oil pumps when we visited as a kid. How cool would it be if you could get them to do a big one as the hen and little ones as chicks?! Examples taken from Google images...

WOW, I didn't know they had done a whole iron "zoo" in Coalinga since then!

I hope you have a fantastic full nest with room for more adventure, and beware of chicken math! :wee

Not sure how the girls are going to like the 112 degree summers here in Taft. Thinking I will have to make them some frozen berries for a cool down.
Ya, there are lots of cooling suggestion threads on here. My ladies did fine when we lived in Bakersfield, just before moving up north to the coast here. Some breeds may be more challenged, but since you've got the BYC community supporting you already.. you're off to fantastic start. :woot

Pics always welcome! ;)
