Kids have difficulty eating chicken?

Anyone have problems with their kids raising chickens and then not eating chicken? At what age did it start? Baby is learning words and I’m thinking I might call the chickens Hens and a rooster all the time to disassociate

I'm past kid-rearing age, but no one I know who wants to raise animals for meat has had a problem with this so long as they haven't made pets of the animals. The kiddos need to know the animal's purpose from day one. Even people who name the animals do fine, though they do tend to name turkeys things like "Thanksgiving" and "Dinner," and calves "Hamburger," etc.

This is my method. They’ve seen all sorts of barnyard critters go into the freezer. The majority had names and were known to get head scratching on frequent basis.

From day one, they’ve been food.

For chickens, names could include 'Omelet, Sunny (side up), Kay-Eff-Cee, Fried, etc... and a chat with your children about the purpose of these animals is to provide meat and eggs for your family. It's very possible to care for, even love your livestock, and still be alright with serving them for dinner. Blessings to you and yours.

Just call them what they are. My 17 year old knew from a young age the chickens in the yard and the chicken on the plate are the same thing. He's very loving with animals so that knowledge didn't harm him in any way.

Some kids reguardless of how things are presented are still not going to be o.k with eating animals they've come to know.
You'll have to do your best to be respectful of them if that happens.

I have two philosophies. One is everyone is allowed a pet/pets - pets are not food. Everything else is food, and don't name your food.
