Thanks! I haven't thought about this thread in a long time.

Joey is doing well. She is about 11 months old now. With the change in day light she was briefly only laying about 4 eggs a week, but just started back up to normal speed again at about 6 to 7 eggs a week. Her eggs are still getting slightly bigger. I didn't add a supplemental light to the coop this winter so I am pleased. She is still pretty easy going, although she is my dominant hen. Joey is 3 1/2 lbs.

Here she is enjoying foraging under the wisteria with her tiny flock.

i hope i get lucky and out of the 7 trader joe eggs i have in lockdown (due tomorrow) i will get 7 hens out of lol i know it is a long shot but it is possible

edited to add to say for being a hen your Joey sure does have a nice size comb

I posted a new video because my husband said he had been getting comments and questions via youtube that I needed to address and update.

It has hatching, baby chicks, Joey's first egg song, and just chickens hanging out in my garden. Approx. 6 minutes.

After a little over a year, my hen, Joey, now sometimes acts like a rooster! Early in the morning some days, she hops on top of the patio table, poses like a rooster, and makes the most awful sounding crow I have ever heard! She even is a bit mean if I go up and try to make her stop. I have a hormonal chicken! She only does it occassionally so far for a couple of days at a time. Then she stops for a week or two and starts up again. It is really strange, and I hope to get a video of it. Hopefully the neighbors don't complain. The city code doesn't prohibit specifically male chickens, just "crowing fowl." However, she continues to lay regularly, her eggs are usually between 2.2 oz and 2.5 oz now.

Sooooo going to try this! I have a trader Joes about an hour away but I will call first and make sure they sell fertile eggs. How exciting this is! Are there more threads on BYC about Trader Joe hatchings?
