dare i ask what brand/draw weight the new bow is?? for his age/size i would say 35# draw weight max (which is minimum legal hunting draw weight in most states) not sure what brand bow, but i always recommend mission for novice (serious) shooters as draw weight is easily adjustable and draw length is adjustable by shop or experienced person.

it may need adjustment (mex help) or it could just mean more practice.....could be shooter pull (same as trigger pull with a handgun) if wrist is too limp, and or draw is off, it can effect grouping in a new shooter

Or it can mean using inconsistent form from shot to shot.

mission craze is my bow.....i was around 50# draw weight before i stopped shooting (needs to be restrung) mission menace is step down (more child friendly bow) but i think he would do well with a craze!! mine happens to be pink but it is available in different colors
