My university is one of several that offers a terminal MA/MS specifically for archaeologists working outside of academia. It is called Public Archaeology because we non-university types mostly do archaeology that is funded by, and hopefully of benefit to, the general public. For example, Park Service, Bureau of Land Managent, Forest Service and many other federal, state, and local agencies employ archaeologists. There are also many archaeologists that work at private companies doing legally mandated, government funded research and excavation associated with all sorts of construction projects.

Anyway, working and doing reasearch outside of academia requires a somewhat different skill set than being a professor, and there are a LOT more non-academic archs than professors so that is why some universities now offer us a special program.

BUT being the glutton for punishment that I am, after finishing my MA I decided to apply to a PhD program. Silly silly me.

Definitely not academia. I love doing public education like giving tours, making exhibits, hosting workshops, visiting schools etc but I really do not want to be a professor or any sort of full time teacher. Lecturing makes me super anxious lol.

In all honesty, I will probably just keep doing the same thing I am doing now I have been working for the state for the last two years and I actually really like it. I get to primarily analyze bones and write about them ( the BEST type of archaeology IMO), but also do some public outreach stuff. Basically all my favorite things.

No the last few pages *really* help me see your nickname. Wonderfulness...... Of course Elk's little positive tidbits as to your epidurmus (sp) and hair don't hurt either. My blonde is becoming more red as the years go by and I have freckles on top of freckles.

One must balance that beverage with aqua in moderation so as to benefit from delayed intoxication and if you stay neutral then, like me - you should never experience any so called hangover ever again. I learned this from my Flight Surgeon when in the Navy at 19/20 yrs old. And for the honesty to goodness record, I have not had a hangover yet.
