Kiki's found horse eggs—experiment Round 2

This is not a nice feeling. Crap.

Im still not sure what I should do. I am almost positive it is not alive but I think I might want to try to make a hole just so I know I can make one. This darn shell feels impossible to crack though and I'm worried I am going to squish the whole egg. Argh.
Do you have a sharp knife?
Just tap in the same spot a lot. It should chip away. If not, there's your answer right there.

Edit:
Also i chip in the air sac, not where the chicken is.

I know it was peeping yesterday. I'm thinking it might have run out of air. I should mention that this running out of air has not once crossed my mind.

I have drill bits. :th
I take a small drill bit in my fingers and twist it. it takes a few minutes this way, but doesn't risk poking the chick.

I'm going to ahead and call it. I think it died over night.

I now know I can successfully work my incubator. I now know that I need to pay better attention to possibly making a hole next time. What I'm not so sure about though is if I should assist in any way at all in the future.

I tried using a few things. This is what finally worked. I think the little handle gave me a better grip. JPEG_20180509_122822_2600795056888367009.jpg

So sorry Kiki :hugs

May you have better luck next time. If one of my eggs hatch, I'll name the poult after you ;)

That's a personal question.
I take every egg one at a time. (Dont read that wrong. Out of 27 chicks attempted, we've had i think two hatch time questionables.)
I always encourage people to wait it out, except today, as you were one of the first that waited long enough.
But in the end the hatcher should always make the call for when to intervene. And i don't think you can make a blanket policy.

I've assisted tons it's something you gotta time right and will get the feel for with experience. One helpful hint is when you think you should pick away some of the shell with tweezers careful not to pick the membrane and take warm water and dab the membrane it will instantly turn translucent and if you see red vains it's too early if you only see the chick it's time. If you prick a vessel at all and it bleeds the chick will die

I'm so sorry Kiki. :hugs

My policy is to not assist unless they have externally pipped. I may make an exception for my Whites though.
