I'm here for the next 20 days!
Looks like OEG. Lovely birdsLook who just showed up. My new bff's.
I say sneak a peek when she gets up today and sneak another peek tonight!I have a serious question, y'all. One of my broodies usually takes her break in the middle of the day, with dark eggs should I candle them when she is off the nest around noon, or wait until dark and remove them from under her. I am getting anxious and we are at about the midway point in incubation. These eggs are pretty dark, FBCM and French Blue Coppers. Any ideas?
ETA: Kiki keeps showing candled eggs and now I want to know how mine are progressing, didn't candle with broody hatching before, except at the end to make sure the unhatched were not going to hatch.![]()
Yes. Some start as early as March, but I think most it's April or May. They stop laying July-October.@casportpony do peafowl have a specific laying season? I would like to know when my best chances of finding wild peafowl nests/eggs are.
I just got home and candled again. Check it out: bloody eggView attachment 1349106 View attachment 1349107 View attachment 1349108vs cracked eggView attachment 1349110 View attachment 1349113 View attachment 1349114
If the eggs are really dark, you may not be able to candle them. I had an EE egg that had a particularly thick coat of color on it and I couldn't see a thing. She got up today already and is back on the nest, that's why I am pretty sure she gets off around noon, cause after keeping track that seems to be her pattern. Will try both hens tonight. Thank you, even if this is your fault!!!![]()
