When I was in highschool, we had a Dachshund, Max, that liked to bark for the sake of barking. He would lay on his side on our deck with his head on the floor and bark every 15 - 30 seconds for hours. My mom finally got fed up with him and bought him a shock collar. When he would bark the first time, it would beep and then if he barked again within a certain time period, it would shock him. If he continued barking, it would continue zapping him repeatedly for about 15-20 seconds until the barking stopped or it hit its programmed limit. If he does, you can feed him to a real dog.
I hope he doesn't though I've found the smaller the 'dog' the more they feel they need to adhere to the "Speak LOUDLY and OFTEN if you only have a small stick" mindset.
Well, the neighbors next door had St. Bernards and Max was intent on trying to kill them. No joke. One time the St. Bernards got loose and came up to our fence and started barking. Max took off and started trying to get them through the fence. He started barking and then we heard him yiking like crazy and he wouldn't stop. I thought he had gotten his snout bitten. No, it was only the shock collar. It had shocked him for barking at the neighbors dogs and kept shocking him when he started yiking. My mom took the collar off after that. After that, if he wouldn't stop barking for no reason, she would rub the two prongs on the metal sink, which would cause the collar to beep and Max shut up immediately. We know now that it wasn't humane but we tried everything else to get the stupid dog to stop barking for no reason and it just wasn't working.
