I personally don't let any hen that bites people hatch eggs. I break them instead. I've had two really good moms that attacked anything that came after her babies, except people.

She is really very gentle, unless she is protecting eggs or babies. I am okay with that.

That's how my first roo got his name. I said it was a cockeral but the bf didn't believe me. So I kept calling him Big Boy. Yep, it was a male and he was big.

I have a couple like that. Super nice and sweet unless protecting the unhatched or young.
My big blue cochin is one to be careful around when broody. She packs a mean peck.

Told DH last night that I will eat chick starter for a week if one of our hatchlings isn't a cockerel. He is flying all over, even on top of mom when she is standing, Chest bumping other chicks, not listening to mom very well, and generally flapping his wings to get other chicks to do what he wants. Will try to send pics tomorrow, tried to pick him up yesterday and mom bit the sh*t out of me, still have bite marks this morning!

Please let him be a boy.
I do NOT want you to have to eat that nasty stuff!

DH would die before he would let me eat chick feed. DH is a sweet heart.

Chick feed kind of looks like grape nuts cereal, may be it's good with milk. Has anybody tried it? The chicks love it.
