My Gramma was a widow raising two little kids and two teenagers during the depression. Money and meat were scarce, but PB was handed out free. She spread it on her bread before dipping the slice in the egg mixture, starting with the egg side and flipping it over to just brown the PB. Her kids got protein, and were thrilled with their special treat ... and it remains a treat with my family to this day.
