My Mom was the first demo agent for Litton, way back when. We had a microwave (courtesy of the company) way before they showed up in stores. No one had ever heard of them and most were afraid of them (see previous note about cats in tin foil hats.) They were so new that there weren't any recipes or books beyond the instructions that came with the oven. We were Mom's guinea pigs as she learned how to best use the beast. While it was amazing for leftovers and quick cooking, I've eaten enough rubber cupcakes to last me a lifetime! And blond meatloaf tasted great, but looked scary. There was no such thing as a browning element, at least not at at first. When they did come out with one, it was extra ... and severely cut into the size of what you could cook ... so blond meatloaf, it remained! That's when my brother and I developed a serious addiction to ketchup!
The local electric company was doing demos and my mom (our girl scout leader) booked one for our troop. We thought they were pretty darned cool! As soon as they became available to the public, mom had to have one. :lau
