I have a cousin who is allergic to citric acid. Have you ever looked at labels for that? It's in EVERYTHING - even cereal and baked goods! When we were youngsters, we were allowed a bottle of wine to share - growing up in an Italian family has its' advantages! We used to laugh at her when she would get "drunk" on just a few sips of wine. If we'd only known then what we know now, we wouldn't have allowed any of it. What we thought was intoxication was actually the beginnings of anaphylactic shock! It's not an allergy, thankfully (I guess).
It works the exact same way as lactose intolerance, where the sugar (lactose or fructose) bypasses the small intestine (where it is supposed to be absorbed) and enters the large intestine instead. The bacteria in the L.I. take matters into their own hands and cause the classic unpleasant symptoms of gas, pain, nausea, etc.
FWIW, lactose intolerance is more accurately called "lactose malabsorption."
But to answer your question—it is both. Fruit, some vegetables, most packaged drinks, candy, wine, processed foods, anything with corn syrup... yup.
The list is very long and unpredictable. Even savory foods are not safe (like chinese food or alfredo sauce??? ugh).
This is very interesting and helpful! Thank you! And I think I could handle hot temps if it wasn’t for very long hahah I had no idea they called it that but that’s awesome! Is it expensive being so close to DC?Okay - We get hot in the summer, but not terribly so - a week or so of 90+ here, but shorter to the west (not MID west, Western Maryland!) We do have humidity, though and that can get rough. Winters get some snow, but again, more towards the western part of the State. All four seasons throughout the State - Winter cold, Spring flowers everywhere, including the trees, Beach weather Summers and Gorgeous Fall color. If yo're serious about moving to a moderate climate, look into Frederick or Carroll Counties in Maryland. They're gently rolling Piedmont Plateau - very rural and get all four seasons. And the bonus is that you're only a short drive away from the mountains, the ocean or downtown DC. They don't call it Maryland America In Miniature for nothin'!

This isn’t one of those like sports drink type things, it’s a powder you mix into water that’s just supposed to help you absorb it better/faster than plain water alone? And has some other stuff in it. But I’ll remember this! Thank you.Just remember for every “hydration drink” you need follow up with an equal amount of plain water.
Doesn’t matter whether it is a “sports drink” or not. Anything with added electrolytes in it needs to be balanced against plain water in equal or greater amounts. This isn’t one of those like sports drink type things, it’s a powder you mix into water that’s just supposed to help you absorb it better/faster than plain water alone? Yipes! The first time I drank red wine was on an expensive date night.I have a cousin who is allergic to citric acid. Have you ever looked at labels for that? In my world, Hydration Drinks ARE water! If I need an extra boost, I carry peppermints.Just remember for every “hydration drink” you need follow up with an equal amount of plain water.
It's a waste of money my dude. Nothing is healthier or more easily absorbed into the body than plain water. This isn’t one of those like sports drink type things, it’s a powder you mix into water that’s just supposed to help you absorb it better/faster than plain water alone? I work outdoors in an a very hot arid climate so added electrolytes are sometimes needed to stave off heat exhaustion. But I make sure to drink plenty of plain water too.In my world, Hydration Drinks ARE water! If I need an extra boost, I carry peppermints.
Not in Ceciltucky (Cecil County,) it's not ... and really, ANY metropolitan area is expensive, and none so much as New York - or even Boston! Besides - DC, Baltimore and Phillie are over an hour away. Close enough to visit, but far enough away to avoid/ignore when you want to ... which is most of the time, for us!This is very interesting and helpful! Thank you!
