I find sketches help! Keeps you on task as you go. But of course I would say that! Lol

Definitely sketched my first pen out, map pencils and all, with measurements etc. Took forever. But then I never referenced it when I built it. Never built anything before so I was kind of pulling it outta my bum the whole time. I learned a lot too. Getting ready to do another (hopefully better) one out of scrap, following the "slightly rechecked" guy Chris' last one he did. Seems way easier than what I did.

I finally got the windows covered with hardware cloth. Only thing left is licks for the doors.

Looks pretty secure, I'm excited your quail are gonna hatch soon!

You may want to clean up the edges of the hardware cloth so there aren't as many pointy ends sticking out, my quail sometimes pace along the side of the cage, I'm worried your quail might get snagged or cut on those points.

Basically, idiot-proof it for tiny idiots. Coturnix have had most of their survival instincts bred out.

That cage is working perfectly. I did flatten down the pokey things. I started my second cage build today!

That one is done silly.
I'm working on the next one now but I'm stuck again.
I'm trying to decide if I should use the 1/2 inch hardware cloth or go smaller with the 1/4 inch so I can use it for babies.

Use 1/2". Lay a piece of 1/4" inside for babies and remove it when done. Dual purpose. If you leave it 1/4", you will be cleaning it hourly. Yuck.

1/4" is removeable for cleaning too.
