South African and Australian accents are different. New Zealand is different from those two as well. Middle English (think Shakespear) sounded a lot like people in the Appalachians do today. No joke, was just discussing this earlier with DW. She was watching a show with South Africans on it. I asked why do they have the same accent as Australians? She says well they are both from Britain. Yeah I guess they are all quite similar.
Made me kinda wonder what we sound like, IDK? Redneck hillbilly maybe? All I know is upstate NY does not sound anything like NYC.
Never forget first time we drove down to Florida. Stopped at a gas station in Georgia. One of my little girls, 5yrs old at the time, needed to use the bathroom also. Really nice elderly man opened the door for us with a heavy southern accent. Preceded to tell us about southern hospitality. I wanted to tell him we also hold doors open for people but just let him talk. On our way out he held the door open for us again and had another conversation with him.
On the way to our vehicle my little DD says "he talked funny" .. I said he probably thought you talked funny.. She says "I talk English" kids say the darndest things![]()
