Kill a racoon? go to jail

Yep, us folks who live way out in the boonies get all sorts of "drop off's".

We had problems with coons once. Actually a family of young coons. And we set out no-kill traps. We caught 3 babies a mom and a male coon. We did not kill them bc they were so young but we took them to a broad creek with lots of fish and vegatation. It was about a mile and a half from nearby neighbor hoods and along a small rural road.

I would not say this too loudly if I were you. In a lot of areas, it is illegal to relocate raccoons, so depending on where you live, if you were caught doing this, ya'll might get arrested and fined.

I have a pretty effective raccoon deterrent, but it is far from humane - my mini mule. Like most mules, she hates predators (her eyes don't glow in the dark, though).

Drowning is Old School Farmer and obnoxious.

As for jail, I consider drowning animal cruelty, so there you go. In California animal cruelty is a felony.

I read the entire story. The first no-no was that his neighbor was there, complaining about how he intended to dispose of it. In defiance to her, and the law, he tossed the trap into the water, in front of his neighbor lady. Right there is the proof, this man is a couple french fries short of being a happy meal.

Not a single residence within a mile and a half? Or not a single neighborhood within a mile and a half? Most roads, no matter how rural have someone living on them.

The closest house is a junkyard i believe.

That's apparently status quo when it comes to rabid animals here, in fact i was told if the animal was still intact they wouldn't even take it. Tax dollars at work I suppose.

I'm surprised they told you to cut off a possibly rabid racoon's head. A great way to be exposed to its fluids. Seems like a really dumb idea.

He may have drown a Raccoon, but I have seen a raccoon drown a grown Black&Tan coon-dog in a creek. I have herd of predators being caught, in a live trap, and drowning them, in a rain barrel before. Predators run the risk of being shot, on my farm, but my two LGD's seems to keep them away, from the farm.
