I am fixing to let my chicks out in the yard. I have a lady from down the road that told me the big ole hawk that nests here ate evey one of her new duck chicks.. This sounds bad ... yes bad.

I have a small yard that is enclosed on each side by a 15-20 foot hedge. The house closes the 4th side. There are cable, power and phone lines running over the middle of the yard to the house. The hawks here still manage to divebomb into the yard and attack my full grown birds. I have been lucky so far, I have a good rooster and I run out whenever I hear them start the panic call. They do the panic call for any new animal in the yard including cats they don't recognize even friends I bring over if they don't know them. If you let chicks free range without a guard dog they are well....goners my friend

I just ordered crow decoys to try to keep the hawks away. They are supposed to be in on Tuesday--I'll let everyone know if it works.
