Here it is:
scarecrow.jpg

It's called the scarecrow, it runs on batteries and it's a motion detector. Here is one of many sites that sells it. I use it for my Koi pond.

Laying the wire on the ground around the outside perimeter of your fence certainly is effective. I attach it to the fence using hog rings, and then just shovel a little dirt on it so it doesn't look tacky. The best material to use is chain link fence. It is indestructible and will hold up a long time without rusting away. Any height chain link fence will work. The idea is to break the chain link fence into about 3 ft wide sections by untwisting a wire. Then lay these sections end to end around the perimeter and hog ring them to the fence along the bottom. Hog ring them to each other too. Dogs and other predators that may try to dig under the fence will start digging right at the bottom of the fence where it touches the ground. They can't get thru the chain link, and aren't smart enough to back away from the fence 3 feet to start digging. Even if they did they would have a long way to dig before they could get inside. This is a lot easier than digging a trench and burying the wire. Also it works 24/7, year after year, no power required.

But I doubt if it will keep bobcats out. They probably don't dig under a fence, they just jump over. And if your fence isn't 6 ft high, dogs and coyotes can jump over it too.
