"Kills" primer inside the coop

I agree on the suggestion to use the low odor version, especially if you plan on using the oil based primer. Kilz oil base has a strong enough odor to make you loopy painting in an enclosed area! Zinsser is another name brand primer (after painting 10 houses I've found the Zinsser to be a better quality primer than the Kilz but often a bit more expensive).

Priming and then painting the inside is perfectly safe for your chickens.

Thanks everyone! I love hearing all the great feedback. And yes, I meant Kilz......I was very tired when I posted :)

I should have been more specific, cuz I do have dark green trim on mine. Yours is not quite as red as I meant. Most of today's paint is non toxic so I wouldn't be concerned.

Chickens will peck at the color red and blood. But you should be fine.

don't worry, be happy

My coop is all red too..never had an issue, but can attest first hand about the pecking at blood....vicious when they see blood, will peck to the death...that is how I have 2 white leghorns....they were patients of brutal attacks....
