Yes, that feeling of "Ok, time to type up basic supportive care AGAIN..." even tho I just posted it 2 threads ago, is EXACTLY what I'm talking about!! If there was a sticky at the top, then SOME of the people would have read/acted upon it (helpful!), and for those who DIDN'T read it, at least I could just post "Read sticky at top of page, do it all, then post again & let us know how it's going..." Which at least is less typing (also helpful

!).

As far as an "Antibiotic Sticky", I absolutely agree that there are too many variables to give a cut & dry ANSWER, and I'm not suggesting that people are advised to give a specific drug at a specific dose for a specific symptom.

Rather they would be given the BASIC information as to what an antibiotic DOES (kills bacteria, not viruses), explains that not all antibiotics work the same (some are more/less effective for different body systems and different types of bacteria), and also general info of risks of incorrect usage (impact on GI tract, possibility of creating resistant bacterial strains, inhibition of meat/egg use, etc.)...

That way if an owner is trying to decide "Should I use antibiotics??" they could get the BASIC info (that we have all posted over and over ad infinitum!) and make THEIR OWN, better informed decision. With additional links for "specifics", that THEY can choose to follow (or not!).

Similar scenario for anti-parasitics/dewormers...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... I'm trying to think what exactly I do in this situation... I guess I DO (or would) give the advice, BUT I always include a kinda "disclaimer", that mentions that there is no way to know for sure, am not there so this is my best GUESS, or something like that. I don't think I would EVER say or imply "Do THIS and it will fix it for sure!", more like "You may want to consider A, B, C, it can be helpful in some cases." or "There was a bird with similar symptoms last week and the owner found D, E, F, to be effective."

I guess I am pretty careful with how I word it.

All of this would also fall into the category of, "...information contained within member postings", so should be no repercussions to board owner, and like Mods mentioned earlier in this thread, readers have to understand that all advice given/followed is at the sole discretion of giver/follower!

So, yes, when time is of the essence, and an owner is losing their mind over a terribly injured or ill bird, I put it out there, in good faith, to the best of my abilities... I just steer clear of promises and "DEFINITES", but I still think it can be of value, members helping members is the BEST thing about BYC, as far as I am concerned
