this may seem a bit rude so I apologise in advance but i have decided to buy 2 more ducks 1 female and 1 drake totaling 3 females and 1 drake, however I only found out last night that the good old drake actually has a penis that can be 16 inches long lol

I can hear the men gasping already ha ha

but as I continued researching I discovered that every year it drops off and they grow a new 1 which I was highly startled by!!! My question is am I going to be going around my garden 1 day and find a huge corkscrew penis on the grass????? Please help

LOL not rude more a curious question, can say i have never, ever found anything and i own many, many drakes.. as a matter of fact never even heard of it before, my only concern with drakes was always watching for a prolapse.

Drakes are rather odd with their design, and it startles many here when they first see it but as someone who has owned Stallions and rams not much really surprises anymore. ;)

This makes me chuckle. No they do not lose their penis, that is a myth. It is quite large if you ever do a necropsy and pull the whole thing out. What you will see is not overly large or scary. You should look up female duck anatomy as well because it is quite interesting on how the females can select which male will fertilize her eggs.

Well really, ummmm... Lol don't believe everything you read... That video also incorrectly states that the drake "rapes" the hen.

That is completely false, absurd, and kind of offensive.

It also does not say "drops off" it says "wastes away" which would be inside the body, like going dormant for winter... Recycled, per se.

They do not rape the hens... They are made to fit perfectly together lol...

Oh my no. No pieces of duck penis laying in the yard ;)

You won't even know :D

Thanku for your replies but I'm really confused now as it states that every year it drops off and they grow a new one http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/i...ibed-a-ducks-penis-there-is-no-god.452850421/

Ummm... Yeah, that is just simply not true and most domestic ducks mate all year long. Also some of the information she gave it not necessarily true. Females can pick and choose which sperm will fertilize the egg. That is why her anatomy goes in the opposite direction than the males corkscrew.

O.K. In a nutshell. Duck sex is not pretty and is the closest thing to poultry rape that seems to exist. They do not loose their penis. However, off season, it does shrink considerably and sometimes seems to dissappear. Female ducks can isolate the seman from the male duck she does not want to be the father of her babies and cast it out or conversely can select the male seman she does approve of and allow it through. All of this to create some of what must be the cutest little creatures on the planet...ducklings.
