This was in the Police Log in my little town paper this week:
At 6:33 p.m. Tropper Malek reprorted that a 46 year old woman was backing her 2004 Nissan Quest out of her driveway when she felt that she backed into something, got out of the vehicle, and discovered she'd hit a hen. While she was removing the hen the vehicle rolled backward. The driver's door, which was left open, hit the woman, knocked her down, and dragged her about four feet. The woman sustained only scrapes and bruises. No enforcement action was indicated.
They didn't mention what happened to the hen but this should be a lesson to us all to look for hens prior to backing out of the driveway. I'm only half-kidding - my chickens are in the driveway all the time, lol.

how sad...I was thinking the same thing!

My birds like to get UNDER the truck and when I rev the engine they all fly out. I always crawl out of the driveway as I honk to make sure they GET the point.

I think it works though my neighbors must think I am loony. Crawling out of the driveway and honking.

"Hey Ma! I think that Mexican next door's a taco short of a combo plate!!!"

I've not run over any bird of mine. I can't imagine...ugh! I would we be to upset!

Something like this happened to me years ago. I drove a standard and stopped by to get the mail. I got out and forgot to put the brake on  The car started rolling backwards and down the hill  I was running beside it saying bad words..... and finally caught up with it in the middle of the street. I was sooooo embarrased.....

Wow, this is a strange coincidence, a body shop I sell to had a van in last week and they told me almost the exact same story minus the hen!

It was a nissan quest too!

This lady was in her 60's and she was drug by the van until it hit a tree.
