Kindest way to cull

Ok no argument there. I was just strongly disagreeing with the minute to LOC, three minutes to death claim.

Obviously we all will have different ideas on what's an acceptable length of time after the act. I do feel like 7-13 seconds of pain is very short, others may disagree.

I think we all agree that it's a good question to think about and it's worth caring about how we answer it.

I personally agree with decapitation as a means to cull. I too have "choked" as a result of wrestling in high school and "blacked out" nearly immediately. So far as anyone making ANY guesses as to pain felt by a person or animal AFTER DECAPITATION, how could one honestly gauge an absolute reaction? The nerves from the neck down would be cut and you're not going to be able to ask said animal or person "does it hurt" and get a legitimate response...I would far prefer to have my head removed versus thrown from a cliff, drowned, electrocuted, lethally injected, or shot because in all of those methods there is just as much opportunity for undo suffering. I have nearly drowned before and can honestly say that was the single most terrifying and painful experience of my life. To the OP: however works for you works for you. We can all quote studies that say this and studies that say that but as long as you help end an animal's suffering in a productive (i.e. no mistakes that make it worse) way so that the pain is gone in the end, you are doing a service to an animal in need.

Now, if you have to wake up from it, that's the by far worse part. The ether sickness is just plain awful. Thankfully they have better methods for surgery now.
