Kindness of strangers

We used to live in the big city - didn't get to experience too many random acts of kindness there, but once I moved out to a more rural area, things sure changed. I have a lot of great neighbor and stranger stories, but the best story was this:
Day 3 in my new house in the country, I come home from work and discover the propane folks had left the gates wide open - not one, but two, if you can believe it - and my 2 dogs were out running in the street. The younger one was no problem getting back in, but the older one is deaf and mostly blind and was running scared to death. I'm only a few blocks from a state highway - and she was headed that direction.
Good samaritans were all over that day. People in cars on the road leading to the highway saw what was going on, lined up side by side (oncoming traffic pulled off and out of the way), turned on their headlights and started flashing the brights at her to get to turn around. I was running after her - people would pull over, throw open the passenger door and yell, jump in! I lost sight of her many times and there was one guy I'll never forget - Robert, my deceased father's name, I'm sure no coincidence there - who was actually running up and down the hills with me trying to find her. This went on for 45 minutes, with more people I didn't know and haven't seen since jumping in to help me out. In the end, we all sort of herded her home - and my next door neighbor, who has MS and had watched all this unfold from her porch, invited me in for wine

Oh, yeah - there are kind folks everywhere, and I try to return the favor whenever I can. I love the Pay It Forward concept - thanks, Ray, for starting this thread!

I miss him a lot. He's home now though.

Great story - got tears in my eyes. When I had to have my 21 year old cat put to sleep, I had her cremated also. After I got home from picking the ashes up, I found a small card with her paw print and name on it. I just lost it.

That was 8 years ago, and I still have that card.

when my brother died in a motorcycle accident a stranger saw it on the news and wrote a letter to my mom . this person hasd lost a son in a mtorcycle accident not long before. we will never forget this person. they didnt leave a return adress...

I work at a specialty veterinary hospital. We buy those kits that you use to make clay hand prints for your kids and use them to make impressions of client's pet's paws when they are euthanized or pass away. Most of the clients love it. It is hard to lose a pet

When my first GSD puppy died the Vet did an impression of one of his feet. I still look at it to this day and am grateful for it.

This story really is quite touching!
I have never lost a pet, but I can imagine what it is like.

I don't know when I thought of the idea for the thread. I've been getting stuck in a lot of places in the middle of nowhere recently
