I was strongly considering buying one of the King Suro 20 incubators since so many people on this forum have had great experiences with it so far. It appears to work exactly as advertised. However, I decided to go with the more expensive
Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance EX model instead. Here were my reasons:
1. The makers of the King Suro 20, Autoelex, offer a 6 month guarantee.
Brinsea offers a 2 year guarantee. If I am going to invest such a large amount of money in an incubator, I want the company to stand behind their product for as long as possible.
2. Customer service for Autoelex is in Korea, while
Brinsea is a British company and has secondary headquarters in Florida. This will make it much easier for me if I have a problem with the unit.
3. Instructions for the King Suro 20 are said to be poorly written and confusing. Although people are ultimately having great results with the King Suro 20, I have found even the online clarifications to be somewhat confusing.
Brinsea's instructions, on the other hand, are clear as a bell (all owner's manuals are available online on their website).
4. Before investing such a huge amount of money, I wanted to to test the customer service of each company. I wrote e-mails to both Autoelex and to
Brinsea with a question about their products.
Brinsea responded with a thoughtful e-mail within several hours, whereas Autoelex has yet to respond (this was a couple of weeks ago). Maybe this means nothing in the larger scheme of things, but it meant something to me at the time.
Because of the above reasons, I was personally much more comfortable spending about 50% more up front to go with the
Brinsea model. Just my 2 cents. I have no affiliation with
Brinsea or Autoelex.
