Recently, there's been an orange cat coming into our yard and looking at our chickens. He doesn't seem interested in eating them - in fact, he freaked out when he heard our chickens squawk (he noped it out of there after the chickens freaked out at the cat). Should I be worried about this cat or is he a "minor threat"?

never hurts to keep an eye out the fright and flight is a good sign keep and look out we have three outside cats that where raised with our birds :bun.. They are trustworthy with older birds but will kill young chicks :old

Thank you. Our chickens are 8 months old - is that considered "young"? One other time the cat was sitting at the run and watching the chooks - this was when they were slightly younger.

keep a close eye you want to have the birds old enough to defend, do you have a cockerel?

We have a run and free range them when we're home.

be sure your able to watch closely only take a second to kill

I wouldn't let your guard down unless he stops coming for a few days. Because sometimes predators watch your schedule and try to time the perfect attack. So if he's any bit interested, don't just assume he wants to be friends with your chickens.
:thumbsup
He doesn't come every day - just once every while - but it does really put me off when he comes. My mom says not to discourage him from coming because we have mice.
