Knoble Chickens Builds a Coop

Still planning on the plywood top, will nail to the bottom of the rafters. Will also need to drill some large holes in the spacer blocks between the rafters over the coop so I don't have a trapped airspace. I have a 2 inch forstner bit that will do the job nicely. The holes will get covered with screen material to keep out hornets and birds.

What a wet day. Good thing I got the roof panels on the coop&run yesterday, but it is way too wet outside for my liking. Painted a second coat on some of the wood that was protected by the new roof though, and finished off the first gallon of white paint.

Oh please give me some dry days, this wet crap is getting on my nerves. The webs between my toes are wet enough, thank you.....

If you using osb on the rafters. I would install some vapor barrier between the sheet metal and osb. Osb swells when damp. Metal roof condensate. I got rolls of this space looking foil with bubble wrap sandwiched in between. it white on the inside and its installed between the purlins (rafters) and the tin. That way it don't ran in my wood working shed. Id think u could use tyvec too. or roof tar paper.

I'll take that idea and run with it. I have a roll of 3mil plastic, that should do the trick.

Hope that paint sticks long term when applied in that cold wet environment.
I guess damp feels dry when you live in rainland...haha!

That makes two of us!

My wish has been granted! We had a dry day today, with sun, somewhat warmer (55deg) temperatures. After getting back home from a appointment and getting a late start on the coop, I still managed to get a bit done. I finished the touch-up, and installed the floor and ceiling of the coop. I painted the bottom of the floor, and installed a vapor barrier above the ceiling. Burned some scraps in the fire pit as I worked and had music from my ipod in a boom box player keeping my ears happy. Lets just say it was a good day!

Remembered to catch a few images...

Added a few stiffeners under the floor

Floor installed

Ceiling half done, showing the vapor barrier

Good progress considering the only a half day. Something about sun, music and a good dewalt drill and driver that always helps me get things done too.

Keep the pics a rolling.

I remember the time I showed a Ryobi rep what his new impact screw driver could do by driving a 3 inch deck screw into a PT 4x6 chunk until the bit lost contact with the head of the screw. Buried that screw head over a inch into the wood. I then put it in reverse and pulled the screw back out, smoking hot. First time I have ever seen a rep get wowed by his own product.
