Knocking over water and feed and making a mess!! HELP

Yikes, how does that feeder work? If the chicken on the step steps off, then does the chicken on the other side (not on the step) get hit in the head with the lid?

But I agree that is a very clever feeder.
Yep, if they aren't on the step they get hit in the head. It isn't a heavy lid, no one has been hurt, and chickens are quick learners when food is involved.
 
I have seven chickens at this time. 6 confirmed hens and one unsubstantiated rumor! They used to make a mess. I now use a 5 gallon metal water tank set on bricks to keep it off the ground. Even in the heat of summer they never run out of water. I just purchased a metal base that is heated to keep the water from freezing. I also use a metal hanging feeder. Big enough that it weighs too much to knock around enough to spray food around. It will last about three days before filling.

I have a small inexpensive hanging feeder for grit. I scatter dried egg shells, and or oyster shell calcium as needed.
