Know anything about California Whites?

I recently ordered some California White laying hens. They seem to be a nice bird and are pretty calm, and smart.

Does anyone know anything about this breed? I haven't seen but two hatcheries that sell them. Are they a cross of something else? If I hatched any from my birds will the be true California Whites?

They are white with black specks here and there, like some one got ahold of a black marker and wrote on them here and there. Although most of mine seem to be all white.

Thanks for any information. Deborah

I have a Cali White pullet and when she was a chick she was spotted but is solid white now.
Besides my Sultan she is the flightiest chicken I have ever had.
You can check out Feathersite for more info on them

That is strange that you find them to be flighty and mine are more calm than the Buff's and Barred rocks and Australorps. They are pretty tame and will walk right up to me or my girls. The girls even pet them!

I did some research on the internet and found out that they are a cross between California grays, and White Leghorns.

So I probably won't be buying them again, since they are a production bird supposedly and won't last long in the eggs. I guess from what I have read that they are pretty much done laying by age 2.
