Moving a thread about laying over here because we know from a vet visit that our girl is eggbound. 20 week barred Plymouth Rock.
On Thursday they did imaging that saw 3 undeveloped eggs inside (she's a new layer and had been laying weird eggs, finally two incomplete at once). We took her to the vet because she was lethargic, but since passing one yolk on Friday afternoon at the vet (I'm writing this Sunday evening), she's been very perky, eating and drinking and pooping fairly normal solid poops while in isolation, but with no additional laying.
She was given a hormone to prevent more eggs backing up, we've been giving her a prescribed oral calcium and Epsom salt baths (the vet thought that sounded weird, but many here have seemed to have success with that so we figured it couldn't hurt). I've tried gently massaging her abdomen while in the bath. She doesn't appear to have discomfort with that.
We're speaking to the vet again tomorrow, but does anyone have thoughts or experience with a chicken known to be egg bound that stops exhibiting the normal symptoms of such? And still can't seem to lay?
