I have 30 chicks (colored Rangers) in the brooder. They will be a week old tomorrow, so they still need the heat lamp. Last night, I got home at 11:30pm from work, and went to stick my head in and check the babies. I tippy-toed in as quietly as I could, so as not to disturb them much, didn't turn the light on, just used the glow from the heat lamp to get to the brooder.
Sure enough, they were all asleep. The heat lamp is over one corner of the box. SInce the reflector is round, the area lit by the lamp is curved. Ever see one of those rubber fake chickens, head stuck out straight in front, legs stuck out straight behind? Well, all 30 of them were lined up side by side, all in that fake chicken position, perfectly following the line of the light. Funniest darn thing I've seen in a long time.
Never a dull moment with fuzzy butts!
