Konza Prairie Rangers

Sorry to see Moby go, but I am not ready. I thought I was, then predators started showing up every night. My dad, my dog and I all have to scare away this stupid bobcat. Plus, I live in a suburb, so if Moby's as loud as you say, that would end badly.
A few other very unfortunate things have been happening around here, so I guess that just means we aren't ready to start adding yet. ): Which is a complete let down. This also means I'm not moving for a long time. ):

I"m very sorry to hear about your losses and struggles! I have had them, and I completely understand how hard it can be- I'm still fighting the silly coyote, and I'm in a normal suburban neighborhood, a block from a hardware store, gas station, grocery store, neighbors 25' away on either side. VERY disheartening. I don't keep my breeders here, but I DO have my grow-out pens here. It's terrible not to allow them much time in the lush grass and running freely...but better than being a coyote dinner.

Moby isn't really LOUD, so much as DEEP and resonant. It's really like a dog howling down the block when you hear him off any distance at all. You think it's farther away and a totally different sound. His son that is virtually indistinguishable is yet to crow. I'm curious whether he's the same! If I still have the son when you're ready, Marble will be yours!

I'm far from done yet- I'll be selling these until they're gone, though, and I haven't set any eggs for 2 months now. It's weird to be winding down, but I'm sure all of you continuing will help me in a couple years when I'm ready to buy from you and get back in!!

I hope so too. Ron said that he was only sure of development in 4 of the eggs so here is hoping for a quad!

They are due to hatch on Friday and I am picking them up probably a week from today. Is Mobie the father of the eggs I got or is there any way to know?

Quote: Gosh, I hope you get a bunch more than 4!

The eggs you have will be from Moby and from Granite- there's a pic of him back earlier this year. He's got a bit of a harder feather, a great nubby cushion comb, less white, and he's great with the girls. Terrified of Moby, but willing to play Beta to Moby, so he got the job even if he didn't want it. He's Alpha over one run now, so he's happy.

I'll be separating out a group of Mahogany-based Konzas this week because I'd like to get more of the red barred I've had other folks hatch. I haven't hatched any of those myself, but I think that would be a wonderful coloring to isolate.

I hope so too but I will be happy regardless. I am looking forward to seeing what colors I end up with. Today is lockdown and I feel like going out and buying cigars and pacing the hallways

at Tommysgirl---HOw did the hatch go????What colors did you get??????

At Renee-- are you still planning to send more eggs??? I'm holding incubator space for them.

Arielle two are out a dark chick and a yellow. Ron still has them but I am going to get them tomorrow or Sunday. Can't wait to get my hands on those babies. Can you share pics of your (3?) week olds??

Here is one ron snapped of my two.

They look ready to party! Hoping for a pair but will be happy regardless. Ron thinks the other two with activity may be late quitters.

Renee I would be super interested in learning who ends up with your breeders as long as it is OK with them of course. I would like to get on a list. I would just like to keep a few of your line going so they would be available to you and anyone else. No broodies right now but there is always hope.

I will post a pic of these babies, their Pita Pinta siblings and their mama...my Choc Rock I hatched from your eggs last year when I get them all acquainted with each other.

So glad you have two--- even if the same gender dont give up. THere are ways to work with this.

Yep, final count is two. I hope you and I will be able to work out something so that I can increase my numbers. I am pretty much done hatching unless I get more broodies but there will be plenty next year for sure!

I'm sure we can work together . . . guard those two well!!

I had planned to shut off my incubator a month ago-- looks like one more month. At least is is so hot out now that the newest chicks only need a bit of heat in the form of a heat lamp.
