Konza Prairie Rangers

I agree- while the comb may not be the right thing, you'll certainly end up with a LARGE offspring.

You really could just pick up a large barnyard mix with a teeny comb to move in your own direction, but you may lose some of temperament and qualities (like the mousing I've been going for) BUT maybe not.

Ike seems like a good choice for now, though. I'm going to go ahead and send the other roos off to camp Kenmore next Wednesday, then. It seems like they are only helpful if someone needs one!
Yeah Ike gets the nod. Then when I hatch my next batch of eggs I hope to get a nice big cockerel. Mousers!!! Now that's what a girl needs in the coop...and some night vision glasses for the girls so they can see em.

Good to hear from REnee!! yeah!!

My computer has been down so just catching up on 9 days of BYC!!

Will try to call you on Saturday Renee--- hopefully you still have a good trio-- though the birchen boy is of interest too.

Renee canceled on Wed, said she'd get back to me. Conversation setting pickup was either I had to come this weekend or would not be til after the holidays. I've heard nothing from her since. Texted NOT to butcher those 2 boys. I don't know what else I can do -
I've had date after date arranged, agreed to and canceled on me for months.

Ohhhh that's a bummer. I am sorry it has worked out like that.

that the next time will be successful!

I hate that life is as hectic as it is BUT IT IS!!!! Dangit.

I will hold on to the boys if I can- one can only do what they can do and I told you I'd try for Sunday- I've only canceled on you once before that.

And, DANGIT, PAT!! You really have such a full plate you might be good to not take on more, too! Criminy, girl.

Chaos needs to be managed, and I am not adding to mine in order to make it manageable, which is what I've been saying for a long time. I can ship in my own time and it's easier for me than trying to be in a certain spot at a certain time- that's just how it is. It doesn't make sense to ship to you, Pat, because you're close, but this girl is tired and worn out. Can't get blood from a turnip.

Shipping off the d'Uccles (Lavs and Isabels- Chocs left this spring) tomorrow. I'll be focusing on the Cochins going next.

Hope everyone is good! I'm putting the Red Roo in with the girls tomorrow and will see how they like him.

My girls are 20 weeks. I have zippo experience with cushion combs but they certainly aren't red at this point so am curious when to expect eggs. I was thinking after the first of the year but I found a mystery egg in the nest box twice this week. Don't know who could be laying it. It isn't like one laid by my established layers and the other pullets in the pen all would lay chocolate or olive eggs so either it is one of my Konza or one of my mature girls has changed the appearance of her egg during her hiatus.

Amy thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

finally nailed it down. The egg I was asking about in the previous post did not turn out to be from one of my Konzas but I am super happy to report that Miss Maggie...my avatar...lays a true pink egg and it usually has white speckles. The other girl lays a light brown egg with maybe a pinkish hue but Maggie's is truly pink. I <3 it.

Are your Konza girls voracious eaters?? Mine forage well but on the days they aren't they seem to be the first and last at the feeder.

@EdenCamp when I have a big girl go broody I will contact you for eggs. I may have you send them to ronott1 for hatching and just slip the chick under mama at a couple of days old. No clue when that will be but wanted to touch base.
